About the Lessons

Music lessons are available in piano, organ or singing for children, teenagers and adults. Music theory, reading, listening and broader musicianship skills are integrated throughout practical lessons at all levels, with dedicated music theory tuition also available as a separate subject.

Tuition is tailored to each student's experience and goals, whether learning for enjoyment, preparing for examinations, or working towards advanced study. Lessons place strong emphasis on secure technique, musical understanding and confident performance, helping students develop as capable and well-rounded musicians.

What Students Learn

Students develop a broad range of practical, theoretical and musical skills, with lessons designed to build secure foundations and long-term musical understanding.

Piano Lessons in Cardiff

Piano Lessons

Study repertoire from the Baroque period through to the present day (including jazz-influenced works), alongside scales and technical exercises. Piano lessons develop secure finger technique, stylistic awareness, reading skills and musical understanding. Duets are also used to develop ensemble playing and listening skills.

Organ Lessons in Cardiff

Organ Lessons

Organ lessons develop pedal technique, registration, touch and stylistic understanding through the study of organ repertoire from a range of periods. Lessons can also cover hymn playing, choral accompaniment and liturgical organ playing where appropriate.

Singing Lessons in Cardiff

Singing Lessons

Singing lessons develop healthy vocal technique, breath control and tone across the vocal range. Students may follow either a classical or musical theatre pathway, with lessons focussing on communication, language and performance. Repertoire may include music in languages other than English, including French, German, Italian, Latin and Welsh.

Music Theory Lessons in Cardiff

Music Theory Tuition

Music theory is integrated throughout practical lessons, with dedicated music theory lessons also available as a separate subject.

Tuition supports graded music theory examinations, as well as guidance for GCSE and A-Level study, including aural skills, appraising, composition and practical musicianship.

How Lessons Are Taught

Individual Tuition

Every student is different. Lessons are tailored to each student's age, experience and goals, whether they are taking their first musical steps or working towards advanced study.

Complete beginners are welcome, and no previous musical knowledge is required.

Structured Progress

A clear and supportive approach helps students make steady progress over time.

Lessons are structured to build secure technique, understanding and confidence, whether learning for enjoyment or preparing for examinations.

Building Confidence and Musicianship

Lessons develop practical skills alongside reading, listening and musical understanding. Students are encouraged to think independently, perform with confidence and engage thoughtfully with the music they study.

Graded Examinations & Diplomas

Most students work towards graded examinations as part of their musical development. Examinations provide clear goals, structured progression and an opportunity to gain recognised qualifications. They are not a requirement, however, and some students learn purely for enjoyment and personal development.

Tuition is available for practical and theory examinations at all levels, with guidance provided on the most appropriate examination board and pathway for each student.

Advanced students may also choose to work towards performance diplomas, offering opportunities for more substantial repertoire, independent musical development and higher-level performance.

Student Feedback

"I came to music very late in life and initially insisted I was far too old to take exams. Since then I have passed MTB Grade 4 Piano, ABRSM Grade 5 Theory and ABRSM Grade 6 Singing, all with a distinction or merit. I doubt very much whether I could have achieved this with any other teacher."
