What's taught in the lessons?

I firmly believe in nurturing capable, all-round musicians. The curriculum I have developed for my lessons exposes students to a wide variety of repertoire from various different musical periods and styles, whilst also encouraging them to explore and develop their own musical interests. I also teach all of my students to develop good playing/singing technique; to become confident sight-readers; to have a solid understanding of music theory; and develop strong listening and musicianship skills.

I always encourage students to take music examinations, as this provides focus and something to aim for. I offer students the option to take examinations with three exam boards:

  • London College Music Examinations (LCME)

  • Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)

  • Music Teachers' Board (MTB)

For beginners, I use a mixture of well-established tutor books along with my own materials to give them the very best start on their musical journey!

What are the lessons like?

I firmly believe that music lessons should be fun and accessible to all.

I help my students to build their confidence quickly by creating an encouraging and positive atmosphere in lessons which enables them to explore the music they are learning without worrying about mistakes. One of the first things I establish with my students is that mistakes always help us to get better!

I use a wide variety of different teaching strategies to ensure that lessons are varied and interesting - there is nothing worse than a boring lesson that seems to last for ever!

When do lessons take place?

Lessons take place Monday - Thursday and Saturday.
